Mahsuri - Disney Style

Sometime in the 17th or the 19th century, legend has it in the island of Langkawi, located at the northern part of West Malaysia, there was beautiful girl named Mahsuri, a daughter of a martial arts guru who lived her life as a bad ass silat practitioner and the dudes were like wanted to marry her, because, who wouldn't want to marry a hot chick who knows martial arts?

So there were many suitors, and in the end there could be only one. The villain in the story, was rejected by her so he got pissed. He thought that if he couldn't have her, then no one could. So he hatched a plan.

Being the cunning lying bastard he was, he accused Mahsuri and her suitor of fornication, the whole village believed him, and sentenced them to death by stabbing. (Laws were different back then)

But, even with numerous stabbings she was still alive, (see how badass she was?) and only by executing her with her family's mystical dagger (kris) she finally drops dead, but not before cursing the island of Langkawi to have seven generations of bad luck.

I guess the reason why I made this because I'm practicing character designs, and wanted to draw it in Disney style. So I set out to study Glen Keane's fantastic drawings to imitate the design's look and feel.

Mahsuri to me is a perfect princess tale for Disney to tell. I mean, the story's already have a great cast of heroes and villains, a strong female lead, and the original story is tragic enough for them to Disney-fy it into a magical happy ending fairy tale. If there's a good folk story to get significantly changed it would be this and it should be by Disney and no one else, and I'm being really serious about this.
